Preparing for the 2025 Legislative Session:
WASA’s Platform and Strategy

Lunch and Learn
June 12, 2024 | 12:00–1:00 p.m.

ABOUT

Many school districts across the state are struggling financially. Why? There are many reasons, including increased student needs, the phasing out of federal pandemic funds, and increasing costs. At the center of school districts’ woes, however, is the Legislature’s chronic underfunding of basic education.

That is why WASA has adopted a 2025 Legislative Platform with a narrow and deliberate focus on advocating for the constitutionally required ample funding of basic education. Specifically, the Platform urges the Legislature to fulfill its obligation by fully funding Special Education, Pupil Transportation, and Materials, Supplies, and Operating Costs (MSOC). To have any chance of being successful in 2025, we need our members to participate in the process—and WASA will be providing a series of resources to assist your engagement over the next eight months and through the 2025 Session.

This Lunch & Learn will unpack WASA’s 2025 Legislative Platform and unveil the initial pieces of a developing Tool Kit. The Tool Kit will include key messages, talking points, fiscal data, and other resources to assist in your advocacy effort and to ensure we remain aligned—within WASA and with our partners—to speak with one voice. It will be important to maintain consistency in our messaging, causing us to be more impactful and effective.
