The Aspiring Superintendents Academy is designed for those experienced district leaders, building leaders, and teacher leaders who aspire to the role of superintendent.

The Academy will demystify the position of the school superintendent and provide participants with a blueprint for success in key areas of the role. Using real-world, situational leadership tasks, participants will work side-by-side with peers and current superintendents as instructors and mentors to prepare them to become district leaders. Participants will also benefit from expanding their professional networks and interacting with colleagues across the state. Whether you have already attained your superintendent certification or are thinking of entering a certification program, this professional learning opportunity will energize you around the possibilities!

TESTIMONIALS

Following are testimonials from several of our current academy participants:

“WASA has done a phenomenal job of identifying practicing superintendents, who are recognized across the state for their work on a particular aspect of the Superintendency, to share their insights.  These sessions along with the monthly check-in with my superintendent mentor has given me irreplaceable information and insights into the Superintendent position.” —Chris Gardea, Walla Walla Public Schools

“The aspiring superintendents cadre provides insight regarding a myriad of topics to better understand the complexity and nuances of the job, connection to leaders all over the state, and mentorship from current and retired superintendents.”—Sarah Clarke, Lake Chelan School District

“The down-to-earth insight, advice, and connection to seated Superintendents made this an invaluable program.”—Lori Curtis, White River School District

“My experience being part of the Aspiring Superintendent Academy has been transformational. The academy has fostered deep learning and cultivated actionable dispositions to becoming the best equity-driven leader I can be. I have learned so much about becoming a superintendent, from being the instructional leader (strategic plan/vision), key district communicator, financial steward, personnel/facilities management, facilities, and the all-import board relations. I highly recommend the Aspiring Superintendents Academy to any leader who is considering the superintendency.”—Jose’ Rivera, Grandview School District
